How to choose the height of the guardrail for a Double-Decker Dormitory Bed

Nov 06, 2025

The key to choosing the height of guardrails for Double-Decker Dormitory Beds in dormitories is prioritizing safety and suitability for the specific scenario. Safety standards should be met first, followed by adjustments based on actual needs.
First, it must comply with national safety standards. For adult Double-Decker Dormitory Beds, the guardrail height is recommended to be no less than 30 cm. For students or teenagers, the guardrail height should be no less than 25 cm, with gaps between the guardrails controlled between 6-10 cm to prevent body parts from getting stuck. If a guardrail is also installed on the lower bunk, the height can be appropriately reduced to 15-20 cm to balance protection and ease of getting in and out of bed.
Second, the height and sleeping habits of the upper bunk user should be considered. If the user is tall or easily tosses and turns in their sleep, a higher guardrail of around 35 cm can be chosen to improve stability and protection. If dormitory space is limited, or if the user prioritizes ease of getting in and out of bed, a basic height guardrail is sufficient, provided it meets safety standards. As a manufacturer of bunk beds, all our products meet national safety standards for guardrail height. We also offer guardrails of different heights to choose from, and can customize them to meet the needs of dormitory users (such as students and staff), ensuring a balance between safety and user experience, so users can use them with peace of mind.
